175 Hay St

We're on the roof at 175 Hay Street in the Perth CBD — a 10-storey apartment building with a unique energy challenge. The building needed a solution to support common-area loads including the lift and pool equipment, while working with an existing SolarEdge solar installation.

What we installed

We delivered a full battery stack with 48kWh of storage (6 × 8kWh modules) and a 15kW inverter. The system is AC-coupled to the building's existing SolarEdge solar installation, allowing the site to capture more value from onsite generation and store energy for when the building needs it.

This is one of the first installations of its kind — equipment cantilevered 10 storeys off the ground on a CBD rooftop. That means the project isn't just about energy; it's also about safe installation, structural engineering, and getting the approvals right. We secured building permit approval from the City of Perth and the client is really stoked with the outcome.

Outcome

The installation now supports common-area loads (including the lift and pool equipment), helping reduce costs for the strata and improving resilience for shared services.

Next phase

Now that the common-area system is in place, we're looking at adding solar, batteries and EV charging into the downstairs car park. The goal is simple: significantly reduce resident bills through onsite generation and storage — and build a scalable EV charging pathway as demand grows.

Can we do this on other buildings?

Yes. We can add solar and batteries to pretty much any building, anywhere — including the structural engineering and compliance work required to install equipment safely and meet local approvals.
